#Standardswillfall – the IRBA, SANAS conundrum. Watch the birdies drop

The keyboard on my PC has redesignated keys and I can't find the hashtag thing (known as a sharp in music). Back to the hashtag #Standardswillfall. This refers to the incredible likelihood that verification standards that were never particularly high anyway are going to plummet. The BEE commissioner will attempt to prevent this with her

DTI taking over verification, over my section 22

The news that the DTI planned to bring verifications in house was sent to me yesterday.  I immediately phoned Gerhardus Burger (who is no longer at IRBA) and we had a little chuckle.  The problem I had yesterday was that I didn't know who actually said that they would can verification agencies.  Lo and behold

A little more on the SANAS decree on calculating ownership etc

Something was omitted from the last post on SANAS.  The client that stirred up this little hornets' nest (what an apt saying) had black ownership for 11 and half months of their measurement period which ended in December 2012.  If the verification agency had come in February then they would have considered the ownership but

Worcester Voorsieners and a Ronald Davids Labour Services “BEE certificate”

This is atrocious. One Ronald Davids Labour Services has gone out and issued this "self-assessed BEE" certificate for Worcester Voorsieners. As far as I can see Worcester Voorsieners as using this as their BEE scorecard, in all likelihood they have been informed by Ronald Davids Labour Services that this is acceptable. And then, after bullshitting

Distribution of verification agencies in RSA

The PPPFA requires verified BEE certificates and seeing that I am presenting another PPPFA conference this week I thought it would be interesting to see where the verification agencies reside. These same agencies are going to have to service suppliers that service municipalities in almost every corner of South Africa (not forgetting parastatals, national departments

ABAcursed

It's not harping but this verification agency cannot do anything right, I am convinced that they should not be in this business.  And you have to understand that the standards across this industry are not particularly high. Here is a certificate issued to one of their clients.  They claim that this company is an EME

More on the disawareness campaign and a little bit of social consciousness

As per the November 6 post, it would seem that the Amajuba Municipality is a victim of poor DTI public relations and BEE.  This attachment is a must see – but for those of you with coloured monitors I'll write it out for you. (You can see the same announcement on the DTI's home page).

A reader responds to a writing reader

This is in response to the "A reader writes – SANASking too much" post of October 30. This is most disturbing. Section 22 of the Constitution allows every citizen the right to choose their own trade, profession or occupation. While this section permits the regulation of trades, professions or occupations by law, read with section 36,
