Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies last night moved to stamp out confusion after various media organisations quoted a BEE analyst as saying the Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Amendment Bill, proposed that points no longer be awarded for white women and white disabled people for their companies’ BEE scorecard rating.
He reportedly said the two categories of employees would lose their so-called B-BBEE scorecard-boosting status. But in a statement, Davies said there had never been any discussion about deviating from the original beneficiaries of BEE, namely Africans, Indians and coloureds, as defined in the B-BBEE Act.
“The statement should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves, and the market should not give credence to such statements,” Davies said.
